La Esperantisto, Vol. 1, No. 1, estas la unua numero de "The Esperantist," la brita gazeto fondita en novembro 1903 por disvastigi la Internacian Lingvon. Ĝi malfermiĝas per artikolo titolita "Esperanto," kiu deklaras Esperon la ŝlosilo de la tuta movado. La redaktoro klarigas, ke Esperanto estas proponata ne por anstataŭi naciajn lingvojn, sed kiel dua, helpa lingvo, kiu farus la homaron dulingva. Inter reklamoj pri Remington-skribmaŝinoj kaj korespondaj adresaroj, la numero invitas legantojn fondi lokajn grupojn kaj kontribui mem.
La temoj estas internacia kompreniĝo, paco kaj la kredo, ke la dudeka jarcento devas universaligi komunan lingvon. La redaktoro humile konfesas, ke ĉiuj kunlaborantoj estas komencantoj, kaj petas indulgon por neeviteblaj eraroj. Tiu ĉi numero gravas kiel historia dokumento: ĝi montras la fruan, esperplenan komencon de organizita Esperanto-movado en Britujo kaj la idealismon, kiu nutris ĝin.

This is an excellent means of testing the value of Esperanto, and it is to be hoped that many will send in their names. The cost of insertion is 6d. We beg to remind our Readers not to omit to translate the letters enclosed in the Text Book, and to send the translations to us with four penny stamps. The Adresaro—a list of Esperantists—will then be sent, by means of which one can correspond all over the world in Esperanto.
