Diccionario Ingles-Español-Tagalog / Con partes de la oracion y pronunciacion figurada
Compiled by the Filipino lexicographer and Tagalist Sofronio G. Calderón and published in Manila in 1915, this is a trilingual dictionary that pairs English headwords with their Spanish and Tagalog equivalents. Each entry gives the English word, its part of speech, a figured pronunciation in brackets, a Spanish gloss, and one or more Tagalog renderings—often several near-synonyms that capture shades of meaning. Running alphabetically from "A" onward, it functions as a practical reference for translation and study across the three languages that shaped the era's educated Filipino.
The work reflects the linguistic crossroads of the early American period, when English was newly ascendant while Spanish remained entrenched and Tagalog carried daily and literary life. Calderón's affiliations with Tagalist societies signal a project of cultural preservation as much as instruction. It matters today as a snapshot of Philippine multilingualism, a tool for learners, and a record of how Tagalog vocabulary was marshaled to meet a changing world.
