Entretiens / Interviews / Entrevistas
Entretiens / Interviews / Entrevistas gathers more than a hundred conversations conducted by Marie Lebert around the turn of the millennium with the people building the multilingual web: writers, journalists, publishers, booksellers, librarians, researchers, professors, linguists, and translators, both French-speaking and not. Each interviewee describes what they actually do online and answers the same broad questions about copyright, the future of print, the electronic book, machine translation, the information society, and the place of languages in cyberspace. The result is a chorus of firsthand testimony from the early years of the internet.
Compiled while the digital shift was still in its infancy, the book matters as a primary record of how working professionals imagined a transformation they were living through in real time. Its recurring concerns — linguistic diversity online, authors' rights, and the fate of the printed page — remain strikingly current. Trilingual in presentation, it also embodies the very multilingualism it champions, preserving a candid, ground-level snapshot of a pivotal cultural moment.
